Mid Career Mentoring Article

The mission of the Faculty Mentoring Committee is to enhance lifelong professional development in teaching, scholarship, and service. The mentoring relationships will support collegiality, effective communication, self-evaluation, and cultural competence, all of which enhance a stimulating and supportive university environment. Please also visit the Mentoring Tip Facebook Page. Open to all WCU, full-time “Academic” and “Administrative” faculty as defined by the most recent Collective Bargaining Agreement. The Faculty Mentoring Committee is distributed among the colleges and organizations: Business and Public Affairs, Education, Health Sciences, Visual and Performing Arts, and Non-Classroom Faculty. Members of the FMC may also serve as mentors. Faculty members on the committee will be nominated by their respective constituencies for three year terms, one-third of the members to be elected each year. Elections for each member will be university wide. New members will be elected in April, and take office July 1st.

Mid Career Mentoring Article

Brian Taylor wrote in the Chronicle of Higher Education (3/18/2012) about mentoring tips for first timers. The article was actually from the 'by line' of a Female Science Professor. Pre-tenure faculty appreciate the assistance from colleagues even if their instutitions do not have a strong mentoring program which assigns mentors. It doesn't mean those who are tenured no longer need mentoring. More details from
