You will quickly notice the many changes happening in the library. The heating and ventilation systems are being upgrading. Also, on the main floor, you will see new seating desks in the Reference area for an improved work space and privacy. There are desks also so you can bring your own laptops to work or work in groups. Improvements have been made in the QVC area with the addition of terminals for use by the general public. The group study room will also become available soon for students to work together on projects.
We ask for your patience and good humor while the HVAC work in the library proceeds.
The Good News
* Major work on the preparing the library for geothermal heating and cooling has been completed and temperatures have returned to normal.
* Library Services are available at all the usual service points on the First and Second (Main) Floors.
* New computer furniture has been installed in the Reference Area (Main Floor) and the Serials Area (1st Floor)
* The library has added online access to the Oxford English Dictionary and all three parts (Arts and Humanities, Sciences, and Social Sciences) of the Web of Science, 1984 -
The Bad News
* Computer network connections for the new furniture will not be completed until Wednesday, January 14. Printing will only be available from seventeen computers in the QVC Information Commons. Please advise your students not to come to the library to print their syllabi or materials from BlackBoard until at least Wednesday, Jan. 14.
* HVAC construction work will continue on FHG Library Floors 3-6. This work should not interfere with access to library materials. However there will be construction noise and intermittent disruption of normal activities, and it may be necessary to reschedule activities in FHG 409 and some of the other peripheral rooms.
* The 4th floor of the library on either side of the elevator will be the construction staging and work area. This will not be quiet.
Our best wishes to you for the New Year and we sincerely appreciate your patience and understanding.
