Databases no longer available

Formerly WCU students, faculty and staff had access to several EBSCO databases via the Commonwealth Libraries Access Pennsylvania POWER Library project (see http://www.accesspa.state.pa.us/ ).  Due to state funding cuts, these databases are no longer available:

• Book Collection Nonfiction
• Consumer Health Complete
• History Reference Center
• Lexi-PALS Drug Guide
• Professional Development Collection
• Teacher Reference Center 

Were these databases helpful for your research assignments?  Would you like WCU libraries to re-subscribe to these databases?  We might be able to do so if there is interest.  Let us know which database interests you & why.

Library's New Patio During Inauguration

President and Principals - new Library Exhibit

Dr. Greg R. Weisenstein will be inaugurated as the 14th president of West Chester University on Friday September 25, 2009.   Do you know who the preceding presidents were?  And do you know the former names of WCU and that the first chief administrators were principals, not presidents?

In honor of the new WCU President, the library has a new exhibit on all the former presidents and principals.

Saturday Sept. 19 - ScienceDirect journals unavailable

Dr. Lin Tan Exhibits at the Libraries

Dr. Lin Tan has another exhibit in the Knauer Gallery next to the Presser Music Library.  His current exhibit in the FH Green Library continues in the QVC Work Study area.  Please stop by and visit!

The current exhibit has deep cultural historic meaning of popular Chinese refrains.  The lotus when cut leaves strings attached symbolizing the fact even though their may be a long separation, there is always a tie to each other.  Other such symbolism is depicted in his recent photographs on display.

Children's Literature collection - Changes

Beginning this academic year (2009 – 2010) all books in the Children’s Room will be loaned to students for 14 days.

Over the past few semesters students have asked why books in the Children’s Room are checked out for such long periods. In response we have changed to loan time to 14 days.  We are hoping the shorter loan period will provide more timely access for more students to the books in this collection.

We have also added more copies of many of the most popular titles, especially in the picture book section.
