Abraham Lincoln had many ties to Pennsylvania and the Philadelphia area in particular. His ancestors traveled west from Berks County, Pennsylvania, and his most well-known speech, the short but eloquent Gettysburg Address was delivered less than one hundred miles away. His funeral procession traveled from Harrisburg to Philadelphia to New York, passing through dozens of local communities. And the first biography of Lincoln was published right here in downtown West Chester, and is commemorated by a historic marker.
