Visit the 6th floor of FHG Library to view the new exhibit celebrating the 445 birthday of William Shakespeare! In the exhibit, you will be able to learn about the man, his works, and his time. Take a look at the map of London as it was during Shakespeare's time, including fascinating tidbits about the Globe Theater. See examples of Shakespeare's handwriting, and compare various contemporary portraits.
You'll also find in this exhibit items such as photographs of student productions of Shakespeare's plays dating to the late 19th century, and examples of Special Collections materials related to Shakespeare and his works. Lastly, you'll also be able to find out more about one of West Chester University's "treasures," a complete set of the first five printings of Shakespeare's collected works, the earliest dating to 1623.
Related to this exhibit, a new "Shakespeare Resources" Libguide is available. Click here to view. You can find out more about Shakespeare's life and works, as well as have a little fun with the Shakespeare Insult Generator and various quizzes and games that will test your Shakespearean IQ. Take a look and enjoy!
And finally, this exhibit and the new Libguide are meant to support the 4th Annual Shakespeare Birthday Bash event that will be held on the 6th floor of FHG Library on April 23, 2009 from 1-3pm. There will be music, poetry, and drama (as well as some yummy treats). More information about the program will follow, and we hope you'll be able to join us!
I've alwasy loved those old black and white pictures, that 1908 one you have displayed looks so fascinating. Makes me wish I could go back in time and watch the play.
